If you are just starting to plan out your world trip, how you get there will be a main concern in planning where and when you go. You may have come across information on RTW tickets but knowing how to use them can be confusing if you’ve never dealt with them before.

You may have a few questions about RTW tickets like: how much do they cost? Where can I fly? And where can I get them? When buying a RTW ticket, you cannot use the conventional ticket purchasing venues. You need to go through a company that specializes in RTW tickets and knows how to find a cheap flight to each of your destinations and can organize it all for you.

In order to purchase a RTW ticket, you don’t need to be literally traveling around the world. RTW tickets are used when you make at least 3 stops along your trip. Even though they are more expensive than direct flights, for example, LA-Australia-La, they end up being much cheaper than purchasing individual one-way tickets when you add extra stops to your trip.

Purchasing a round-the-world ticket takes a little bit of effort. You will need to figure out a rough itinerary of where you’d like to go and when. You will also need to do a bit of research into the different companies that offer RTW tickets such as airline alliances or specialized trip advisors. Once you find your company, you will need to work with them to plan the trip that best works for you, both budget and time wise. A pro to using a company is that they will do all the work of actually finding your flights for you.

Remember that once your RTW ticket is purchased, you have some flexibility to change-up your flight schedule. However once you depart, you will not have this flexibility. You can still change your flights but with a heavy penalty.
